About Shaw Day 2022
Shaw University started in December 1865 with a Bible class for newly freed slaves in Raleigh, NC. Fighting vicious prejudice in the aftermath of the Civil War and the Jim Crow South, Shaw rose to become a co-educational college, a medical school, a law school & a divinity school.
Since Shaw University’s founding, the institution has continued to celebrate its connection with the Baptist Church. In recent history, "Shaw Day" observances have been established and held annually at partner churches in efforts to showcase the Shaw University product by demonstrating how the support of partner churches and its membership has contributed to the overall success of the institution and its students.
Shaw Day is also an opportunity for churches and members to recommit their support through financial gifts as well as the offering of volunteer services in the area of student recruitment, fundraising, mentorship, and community advocacy work on behalf of Shaw University.
For the weekend of May 20 through May 22, 2022, we are Celebrating the Power of Prayer. In Romans 12:12 NIV: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
