The Greater Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Shaw University needs You!

Greetings, Fellow Shaw Bears!

It is now time for nominations for elected officers of the Greater Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Shaw University. The Nominating Committee is now receiving names for interested persons who want to be considered for one of the following offices: President, Vice-President, Corresponding-Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, and Parliamentarian for the 2024 – 2026 term.  If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, please submit the following information to the Nominating Chair at nominations@shawuatl.org:

All nominations must be received by April 6, 2024. Nominations will be presented to the Chapter at the April 6 meeting and elections will take place during the May 4, 2024 meeting. 

Please find here the information as stated in our Constitution and By-Laws regarding the eligibility requirements for elected officers:

ARTICLE IX– ELECTION OF OFFICERS

C. Any member of The Chapter who has met the eligibility requirement shall have the right to become a candidate for any elective office by notifying a member of the nominating committee within the established time frame of his or her interest in pursuing an office.

1.  President of the Chapter. A candidate for President must have demonstrated interest in the Chapter affairs, paid annual dues and have participated a minimum period of two (2) years preceding election in a local alumni chapter.

2.  Candidates for the other elected Officers (i.e., Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, must have functioned actively for a minimum of one (1) year in the local alumni chapter prior to his/her election as an officer. 

Note: For this election, a chapter vote has defined “active” as a member who has paid dues for 2022-2023 and attended at least 1 chapter meeting via Zoom, conference call or supported a chapter sponsored event during the past year.  

As per our Constitution and By-Laws, all persons nominated will be contacted by a Nominating Committee member (1) for a review of the duties and responsibilities of the specific office and (2) to ascertain their willingness to serve if elected. Each verified candidate will be asked to provide a short auto-biographical paragraph that will be shared with all financial chapter members.
